Case Studies:
Alimak Hek holds the record for the tallest construction hoist system ever used for the construction of the 533 meter tall CN Tower in Toronto, Canada in 1973. Thirteen freight containers transported the necessary components for two 450 meter tall Alimak Super Scando hoists, capable of lifting 2000 kilograms at speeds up to 1.6 meters per second. The hoists remained on site for 28 months during the tower’s construction, with a downtime of 25 hours total for both the hoists over the entire project duration. The hoists provided vital materials and the workforce of 100 individuals daily for the slipform casting of the tower. The CN Tower stood the tallest tower for 34 years until the construction of the Burj Khalifa. It still stands the tallest tower in the Western Hemisphere and is listed as one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World. For more details on this project, click here.

Alimak also leased 26 Alimak Super Scando 450 construction hoists for the construction of Instabul’s largest housing development, Evora Instanbul. 32 Alimak lifts were used in total, with the other six being privately owned by the main contractor, Teknik Yapı Construction. The project consisted of over 4,300 residential units, multiple schools, shopping districts, and recreational facilities designed by Turkish architect Eren Yorulmazer. The hoists used for this project each have capacities of 2000 kilograms per car and a maximum height of 150 meters, with travel speeds of 54 meters per minute. The Eiffel Tower also utilized Alimak hoists during its renovations in 1983 and 1990. Thousands of tons of iron had to be removed and reinforcement added to the 300 meter tall tower while the world renowned attraction remained open for tourists. Two Alimak cars were installed atop a 200 ton concrete ballast, one for material and one for workers. The material car had a capacity of 2000 kilograms and was automatically driven. The personnel car had a manual operator and a capacity of 1800 kilograms. The lifting heights for both cars—both utilizing the same mast—was 55 meters. USA Hoist has provided construction hoist systems for many renowned projects as well. One of the largest projects that used USA Hoist systems was Trump Tower in New York City. Using four USA-8000 HS Construction Hoists, the Trump Tower was constructed in about three years. Lend Lease was the main contractor for the 1,389 foot tall building (roof height of 1,170 feet). The high rise was constructed utilizing repetitive construction scheduling with 98 stories. The tower was designed by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
